HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Abbey O'Brien scored twice in the final six minutes to give the University of Alabama in Huntsville a 13-12 come-from-behind Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse victory over Young Harris College Saturday (March 2) afternoon at Charger Park.
The Chargers improved to 5-0 overall and to 3-0 in the Gulf South, while the Mountain Lions fell to 2-2 and 1-1. Young Harris will face the University of Montevallo Sunday (March 3) at 3 p.m. Central time in Montevallo, Alabama.
Young Harris scores six of eight goals in one stretch to take an 11-7 lead when
Hayley Bartlett scored with 24:12 remaining in the match. UAH scored the next four goals to tie the match at 11 when Megan Hartnett scored a man-down goal with 10:03 left. Young Harris regained the lead at 12-11 when
Leigh Anne Turner scored off an
Erika Cross pass. It would stay that way until O'Brien scored three minutes later to tie the score at 12. O'Brien scored the deciding goal for the Chargers with 4:00 remaining.
Anna Luckie led the Mountain Lions with four goals, while Turner added three. Bartlett found the back of the net twice, while Cross,
Channing Milford and
Mary Deatrick had one apiece. Bartlett, Cross.
Sierra Haas and Turner contributed an assist each.
Cross led YHC with six draw controls, while Milford had five and
Taylor Greenberg had four. Cross scooped up five ground balls, while
Kelsey Dover had eight caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Rachel Robb stopped 13 shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.
