YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College fell to Francis Marion University 10-4 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday (March 16) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Patriots improved to 17-7 overall and 9-4 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 15-8 and 4-4. The two teams conclude the series Sunday (March 17) with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
Francis Marion opened up to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a double from Leniel Gonzalez.
Tristin Smith made it a one run game for Young Harris (3-2) in the bottom of the fourth with a two RBI double down the right field line.
Dahlton Cash hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score the third run for the Mountain Lions in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Patriots scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 10-3 lead.
Brett Hawkins brought home the fourth run for Young Harris with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Cameron Williams (4-2) earned the loss as he allowed five runs on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Tucker Greer collected three hits and
Tristin Smith had two hits and two RBI. Hawkins and Cash each had one hit and a RBI.
Ethan Underwood and
Tyler Washington each tallied a hit.
Evan Flynn (4-0) earned the win as he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with five walks and one strikeout in five innings pitched. Patrick Orlando (4) picked up the save as he gave up one run on three hits over two innings.
