SAINT LEO, Fla | Saint Leo University used a strong second half to overcome Young Harris College to pick up a 21-11 non-conference women's lacrosse victory at the University Turf Stadium Wednesday (March 13) afternoon.
The 25th-ranked Lions improved to 8-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-3. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (March 16) at noon when they travel to Daytona Beach, Florida, to face Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University.
Young Harris scored three consecutive goals by
Taylor Greenberg,
Hayley Bartlett and
Anna Luckie to tie the match at 4 with 17:39 remaining in the first half.
Leigh Anne Turner and Bartlett scored back-to-back goals in a 34 second span to give the Mountain Lions a 7-6 lead with 5:23 to go. Saint Leo scored the final two goals of the first half to take an 8-7 lead at the half.
The two teams each scored twice in the opening seven minutes of the second half as an
Erika Cross strike with 22:55 remaining pulled YHC within a goal at 10-9; however, the Lions reeled off the next 11 goals over the next 16 minutes to open up a 21-9 lead.
Bartlett and Greenberg led the Mountain Lions with three goals each, while Luckie and Turner added two apiece. Cross accounted for the final goal. Cross and
Mary Deatrick had two assists, while Luckie and
Hannah Sacristan had one each.
Cross led YHC with five draw controls, while
Channing Milford had four.
Kelsey Dover paced the Mountain Lions with four ground balls.
Rachel Robb had 17 saves in goals for Young Harris.Â
