CLEVELAND, Tenn. | Young Harris College swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from Lee University Wednesday (March 13) afternoon at Olympic Field.
Young Harris took the opener 3-0 before winning game two 8-2. The Mountain Lions won their fourth consecutive game and ninth of the last 10 to improve to 15-7, while the Flames fell to 11-12. Young Harris returns to action with a weekend Peach Belt Conference series against Francis Marion University that starts Friday (March 15) at 6 p.m. at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions opened the scoring in the first inning of the opener after a double from
Cole Jackson that scored
Zavier Lushington.
Tucker Greer made it a 2-0 game in the top of the fourth after he reached on an error that allowed
Corley Reynolds to score. Lushington concluded the scoring in the seven inning with a single to center field that scored Greer.
Drew Wilson started the game for Young Harris and retired nine of the 10 batters he faced in three innings pitched.
Tucker Daniel (2-0) picked up the win as he retired all six batters he faced over two innings with a walk and one strikeout.
McLain Harris earned his fourth save of the season as he set down all but one batter in two innings pitched with one hit given up.
The one-hitter is second time this season that the Mountain Lions have accomplished the feat.
Lushington collected two hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Jackson tallied one run and a RBI, while Greer had two hits and
Brett Hawkins and
Ethan Underwood had one hit each.
Thomas Zazzaro (1-2) earned the loss for the Flames as he gave up one run on five hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
Lee struck first in game two with back-to-back singles that brought home two runs.
Logan Worley tied the game at two for Young Harris in the fifth inning with a single up the middle. Greer gave YHC a 4-2 lead with a two RBI single up the middle before
Dahlton Cash extended the lead to 6-2 with a single up the middle of his own. Jackson concluded the seven-run fifth inning with a RBI groundout that scored Lushington.
Cash made it an 8-2 game in the top of the seventh with the only extra base hit of the day for the Mountain Lions as he doubled to left field that scored Lushington.
Dylan Nix (2-0) picked up the win for Young Harris as he allowed one hit over two innings pitched.
Cash finished with two hits and three RBI and Greer had two hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Wroley went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Jackson tallied one RBI and
Tristin Smith, Reynolds, and Underwood had one hit each.
Alan Rickman (0-4) earned the loss for the Flames as he gave up three runs on four hits with one walk in four innings pitched.
