Bielec, Mountain Lions weather Storm 16-13

PAINESVILLE, Ohio | Cody Bielec scored six goals as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team defeated Lake Erie College 16-13 in a non-conference match Tuesday (March 12) afternoon at Jack Britt Stadium.

The Mountain Lions snapped their four-game losing streak as they improved to 4-4, while the Storm remained winless in four tries. Young Harris returns to action March 22 when they step back into Great Lakes Valley Conference action with a 1 p.m. Central time match against Maryville (Mo.) University in Maryville, Missouri.

Young Harris jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 5:26 to go in the first quarter as Bielec scored twice and Bevan Pate and Bruce Silk each found the back of the net once. Bielec scored three consecutive goals in the second quarter as the Mountain Lions extended their lead to 8-3 with 6:14 left before halftime.

Lake Erie got as close as 9-7 but the Mountain Lions got back-to-back-to-back goals from Pate, Daniel Zimny and Parker Lamarque to push their lead to 12-7 with 3:36 remaining in the third quarter. Again the Storm pulled within two goals (12-10), but Young Harris scored three of the next four goals to take a 15-11 lead after Bielec scored his final goal with 4:17 remaining in the match.

Silk added three goals for the Mountain Lions, while Pate, Beau Henson and Zimny each scored twice. Lamarque accounted for the other goal. Pate and Silk dished out four assists apiece, while Bielec distributed two. Lamarque and Tyler Oglesby had one each.

Silk and Alex Venturino each collected four ground balls, while Mason King, Kyle Beverly, Bielec and Henson scooped up three apiece. King finished with 21 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
