Tars edge Mountain Lions 13-10

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Greg Taicher and Ryan Dunn combined for seven goals as Rollins College held off Young Harris College 13-10 in a non-conference men's lacrosse match Friday (March 1) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Tars improved to 2-1, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-3. Young Harris will return to action March 9 when they travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, for a 2 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference match against No. 9 University of Indianapolis. It will be a rematch of last year's GLVC Tournament title game.

Young Harris got goals from Cody Bielec and Daniel Zimny to open up a 2-1 lead with 8:32 to go in the first quarter. Taicher followed with two goals for the Tars and Kyle Portera and Kyle Sudol to take a 5-3 lead with 9:58 remaining before the half. Bielec scored again for YHC and Bruce Silk scored back-to-back goals right before half as Young Harris closed to within 7-5 at the intermission.

Rollins scored the first three of the first five goals in the second half, before Bielec and Beau Henson scored back-to-back goals as the Mountain Lions got within a goal (10-9) with 8:15 remaining in the fourth quarter. However, the Tars scored the next two goals to take a 12-9 lead and quell the YHC comeback.

Silk finished with four goals and an assist, while Bielec found the back of the net three times. Henson, Garrett Blake and Zimny accounted for a goal each. Zimny led YHC with three assists, while Bevan Pate, Bobby Kidd III and Blake had one apiece.

Eric Lemire recorded five face-off wins for the Mountain Lions, while Lemire, Alex Venturino and Tyler Oglesby each scooped up three ground balls. Mason King, who recorded a season-high 22 saves in goal, and Jimmy Martelli each corralled two ground balls each.
