DAYTONA, BEACH, Fla. | Bevan Pate scored five goals to lead Young Harris College to a 14-12 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over Palm Beach Atlantic University Friday (Feb. 8) afternoon at the ERAU Lacrosse Field on the campus of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0, while the Sailfish sank to 0-1. Young Harris will face Embry-Riddle in a 3 p.m. match Sunday (Feb. 10) in Daytona Beach.
Palm Beach Atlantic tied the match at 2 on a Blake Israel score midway through the first quarter before the Mountain Lion defense held the Sailfish scoreless for the next 22 minutes. During that time, Young Harris took control of the match as the reeled off seven unanswered goals to open up a 9-2 lead on a Pate goal off a
Bruce Silk assist with 3:56 left before halftime. Pate scored four goals during the decisive stretch, while Silk scored twice and
Billy Magill posted a goal.
Young Harris, which held 45-36 margin on shots, held that seven-goal margin until the final five minutes of the match when Palm Beach Atlantic score the game's final five goals.
Bobby Kidd III registered seven face-off victories for YHC, while
Parker Lamarque had three.
Mason King led the Mountain Lions with seven ground balls, while Kidd scooped up six.
Kyle Beverly and Kidd each had two caused turnovers.
King stopped 16 shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.
