Mountain Lions soar past Eagles 15-10

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | Young Harris College scored six of the first seven goals as the Mountain Lions soared past Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University 15-10 in a non-conference men's lacrosse match Sunday (Feb. 10) afternoon at the ERAU Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 3-0, while the Eagles suffered their first loss and fell to 2-1. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Feb. 16) when they face Florida Institute of Technology at 11 a.m. in the home opener at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

Young Harris broke the game open as they scored five times - twice by Bruce Silk, and once each by Beau Henson, Daniel ZImny and Garrett Blake - in the first 10 minutes of the match. After the teams alternated the next five scores, the Mountain Lions took a 9-3 halftime lead after Blake and Ryley Zopfi scored back-to-back goals 14 seconds apart right before intermission.

The Mountain Lions got strikes from Harrison Wiggins and Cody Bielec at the start of the third quarter to open up a commanding 11-3 lead with 10:58 remaining. The Eagles got no closer than five goals the rest of the way.

Silk, Bielec, Bevan Pate, Blake and Wiggins each accounted for two goals in the Mountain Lion victory, while Zimny, Zopfi, Bobby Kidd III, Henson and Duncan Jackson each found the back of the net once. Zimny tallied four assists, while Jimmy Martelli collected three. BIelec, Blake, Pate, Silk and Zopfi each had an assist.

Alex Venturino led Young Harris with six ground balls, while Kidd, who had four face-off victories, collected four ground balls. Bielec also scooped up four ground balls, while Patrick Phelan, Parker Lamarque and Zopfi had three each. Mason King earned the win in goal as he stopped 10 shots.
