YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Brad Schillinger and Reid Chaconas combined for seven goals as the Florida Institute of Technology held off Young Harris College 13-9 in a non-conference men's lacrosse match Saturday (Feb. 16) morning at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Panthers improved to 2-0, while the Mountain Lions absorbed their first defeat and fell to 3-1. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Feb. 23) with a 4 p.m. home match against Lindenwood University.
Florida Tech scored eight of the first nine goals in the match with Brad Schlilinger scoring three times as the Panthers led 8-1 with 9:53 remaining in the second quarter. Young Harris scored its comeback as they scored three goals in a row from
Bevan Pate,
Bobby Kidd III and
Garrett Blake to get within 8-4 with 1:22 left before the half.
The Mountain Lions pulled within three goals as they reeled off three unanswered goals from
Cody Bielec, Blake and
Beau Henson to close to 11-8 with 10:28 left in the fourth quarter.
Pate, Blake and Bielec led the way for YHC with two goals each, while Kidd,
Bruce Silk and Henson added a goal each. Pate recorded two assists, while Kidd,
Jimmy Martelli and
Daniel Zimny contributed one each.
Parker Lamarque led the Mountain Lions with seven face-off wins and four ground balls.
Mason King, who scooped up three ground balls, stopped 14 shots in goal for Young Harris.
