YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Leonard Jones and Colin Domek combined for nine goals as No. 16 Lindenwood University defeated Young Harris College 14-10 in a non-conference match Saturday (Feb. 23) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Lions, who will join the Great Lakes Valley Conference next season, improved to 4-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-2. Young Harris closes out its homestand with a 4 p.m. contest against Rollins College Friday (March 1).
Lindenwood scored three of the first four goals before Yuong Harris tied the game at 3 on back-to-back goals from
Bruce Silk and
Garrett Blake with 11:34 to go in the second quarter. However, the Lions opened up a 7-4 halftime lead as they scored four of the final five goals in the period.
Young Harris closed to within a goal at 10-9 with 9:32 remaining in the match as they got fourth quarter scores from Blake,
Cody Bielec and
Bevan Pate. However, Lindenwood scored the next three goals over the next three minutes to take a 13-9 lead.
Bielec led the Mountain Lions with three goals, while Blake and Silk tallied two each. Pate,
Daniel Zimny and
Tyler Oglesby had one each. Blake and Pate also recorded two assists each, while
Beau Henson, Silk and Zimny had one apiece.
Parker Lamarque had five face-off victories and scooped up three ground balls.
Mason King, who had 11 saves in goal, led YHC with four ground balls, while
Alex Venturino, Oglesby, and
Patrick Phelan had two each. Venturino led the Mountain Lions with three caused turnovers and Oglesby added two more.
