ALBANY, Ga. | Bailey Campbell drove in seven runs as Young Harris College defeated Albany State University 19-1 in a non-conference baseball game Sunday (Feb. 3) afternoon at Golden Rams' Park.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-2, while the Golden Rams fell to 2-1. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 5) as they travel to Anderson, South Carolina, to take on Anderson (S.C) University in a 3 p.m. contest.
The Mountain Lions struck first in the top of the first inning with a two RBI single through the right side by Campbell and a RBI single by
Tyler Washington to hold a 3-0 lead. Campbell added another run in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored
Logan Worley.
Travis Ray Jr. put Albany State on the board in the bottom half of the second with a double to right center.
Young Harris put up six more runs in the third inning that was capped off with a Campbell grand slam to right field.
Cole Jackson hit a solo home run to left field, while
Zavier Lushington hit a three-run homer to left center as part of a six-run fifth inning for the Mountain Lions.
Cameron Williams (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for Young Harris as he gave up three hits with eight strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Campbell went 2-for-2 at the plate with seven RBI and three runs scored. Lushington added three hits (two doubles), four RBI, and two runs scored. Washington had two hits amf two RBI, while
Cole Jackson scored three runs.
Campbell's seven RBI was one off the YHC NCAA-era record, held by
Tristin Smith, Adam Moore, and Jack Morrow.
Jordan Griffin (0-1) earned the loss for the Golden Rams as he allowed four runs on three hits in one inning pitched.
