YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College defeated Shorter University 19-1 in a Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse match Friday (Feb. 22) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the GSC, while the Hawks fell to 1-4 and 0-2. Young Harris hosts No. 9 Rollins College Sunday (Feb. 24) at 1 p.m.
The Mountain Lions took a commanding 10-1 lead 18:02 into the first half with
Leigh Anne Turner scoring four of her five goals. Young Harris took a 12-1 lead into halftime before scoring seven goals in the second half while holding Shorter to just one shot.
The Mountain Lions outshot Shorter 34-7 and 23-3 on goal. The Hawks had a 13-9 advantage on draw controls, while Young Harris had the edge on ground balls 29-13.
Turner totaled five goals and one assist, while
Mary Deatrick picked up three goals and one assist.
Hayley Bartlett added three goals, while
Erika Cross tallied two goals, three assists, and four ground balls.
Anna Luckie had one goal and five ground balls.

Channing Milford,
Ansley Coles and
Maddie Peek added a goal for the Mountain Lions. Greenberg, Haas, Milford,
Kirsten Barth, Coles and Peek also registered Young Harris assists.
Greenberg led the Mountain Lions with three draw controls, while Barth and Cross each added two.
Rachel Robb collected two saves in goal for Young Harris, while Peyton Reid and Sydney Jones combined for four saves and 19 goals allowed for the Hawks.
