YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Francis Marion University defeated Young Harris College 51-50 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Monday (Feb. 18) at the YHC Basketball Arena.
The Patriots improved to 9-13 overall and 6-12 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-20 and 3-16. Young Harris hosts Columbus State University Saturday (Feb. 23) in a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest.
Elle Hutchinson brought the score within one (21-20) for the Mountain Lions with a pair of free throws 27 seconds before halftime.
Sarah Woghiren gave Young Harris a 28-26 lead midway through the third quarter with a pair of free throws. Young Harris ended the quarter on a 14-6 run to take a 42-32 lead into the fourth quarter.
Shaunice Fulmore got the Patriots within three (48-45) after a jumper with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter.
Jessica Beckner nailed a pair of free throws to give the Mountain Lions a five point advantage (50-45) with 1:20 left to play. The Patriots scored the next five points including the game winner by Kiana Adderton with 2.1 seconds left on the clock.
Pamela Diokpara recorded a double-double for the Mountain Lions with 11 points and 17 rebounds, while Hutchinson tallied seven points and three assists.
Zaria Woods led Francis Marion with nine points and four rebounds while Tatyana McClaney totaled eight points and 16 rebounds.
