YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Lindsey Caudell scored a career-high 20 points as Young Harris College defeated the University of North Carolina at Pembroke 62-54 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 16) at the YHC Basketball Arena.
Young Harris improved to 5-19 overall and 3-15 in the PBC, while the Braves fell to 8-15 and 7-10. Young Harris hosts Francis Marion University Monday (Feb. 25) in a 5:30 p.m. PBC contest.
UNCP started the game on a 14-2 run over the first 7:02.
Elle Hutchinson gave the Mountain Lions their first lead of the game (18-16) with a three-pointer four minutes into the second quarter. Se'Dasia Love tied the game at 20 for the Braves with a layup at the 3:58 mark in the second quarter. The Mountain Lions held a 27-26 advantage going into halftime.
Tee Graham gave UNCP the lead (28-27) with a layup 1:13 into the third quarter. Caudell tied the game at 30 for Young Harris with a three-pointer at the 7:43 mark. After a series of lead changes, Hutchinson gave the Mountain Lions the lead for good (36-34) with a jumper with 2:02 left in the third.
Young Harris held a 48-38 lead 2:25 into the fourth quarter after a pair of free throws by Hutchinson. The closest the Braves would come the rest of the game would be three points (48-45) with 4:08 left in the fourth. Caudell put the Mountain Lions up by 11 (62-51) after a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left in the game.
Caudell finished with 20 points on 4-6 shooting from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line for Young Harris.
Pamela Diokpara totaled eight points and 15 rebounds, while Hutchinson tallied 10 points and six assists.
Sarah Woghiren had 13 points and three rebounds.
Avery Locklear and Aliyah Farmer each had 13 points and five rebounds for UNCP. Graham finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
