GREENWOOD, S.C. | Young Harris College split with Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 16) afternoon at Dolney Field.
Young Harris won the opener 7-3 before losing game two
The Mountain Lions improved to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the PBC, while the Bearcats fell to 5-6 and 1-2. Young Harris hosts Anderson (S.C.) University Tuesday (Feb. 19) in a 2 p.m. contest at Zell B. Miller Field.
Lander got on the board first in game one after Mike Fitsche came around to score on a wild pitch in the first inning.
The Mountain Lions tied the game in the top of the sixth inning after
Cole Jackson scored on an error.
Dahlton Cash gave Young Harris a 3-1 lead with a two RBI double to right field as part of a four run eighth inning.
The Bearcats put two across in the bottom half of the eighth to cut the lead down to two (5-3).
Bailey Campbell added two runs in the ninth inning for Young Harris with a double to center field that scored
Jackson Jones and
Zavier Lushington.
Dylan Gibeau (1-2) earned his first win of the season for the Mountain Lions as he allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
McLain Harris picked up his third save with two innings of scoreless relief allowing three hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Campbell collected two hits and two RBI, while Cash had one hit and two RBI.
Tristin Smith tallied a hit and one RBI.
Ryan Flores (0-1) earned the loss for Lander as he allowed two runs on one hit with one walk and one strikeout in two innings pitched.
Young Harris struck first in game two with an infield single in the top of the second by Cash that scored Cambpell. Cash came around to score after
Corley Reynolds grounded into a double play.
Lander responded in the bottom half of the second by posting six runs in the frame. The Bearcats also posted five runs in the sixth inning.
Kyle Turner (0-2) earned the loss for Young Harris as he allowed six runs (five earned) on four hits with three walks in 1.1 innings pitched.
Joseph Whitt (2-1) picked up the win for Lander as he gave up two runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts over seven innings pitched.
