YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Leigh Anne Turner shined as Young Harris College defeated Lincoln Memorial University 16-5 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match on a rainy Friday (Feb. 15) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
It was the season opener for both teams. The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0, while the Railsplitters fell to 0-1. The Mountain Lions return to action Friday (Feb. 22) with a 4 p.m. home match against Shorter University as Young Harris begins its defense of back-to-back-to-back Gulf South Conference tittes.
The Mountain Lions took control of the match as they opened up a 6-0 lead over the first 17 minutes as
Taylor Greenberg scored three time, while
Sierra Haas added two goals and
Erika Cross accounted for the other goal. Young Harris, which took an 8-2 lead at the half, led by as many as 13 goals (16-3) in the second half.
Young Harris had a total of six different players who scored. Turner led the way with four goals, while
Maddie Peek,
Channing Milford and Greenberg each finding the back of the net three times. Cross led the night in assists with three, while
Mary Deatrick and Peek tallying one each.
Milford, Maddison Larrimor,
Kelsey Dover and Cross led YHC with four ground balls each, while Haas and Deatrick each scooped up three apiece. Milford accounted for three draw controls, while
Kirsten Barth had two.
Rachel Robb collected seven saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
