FLORENCE, S.C. | Francis Marion University used a strong first half as they made seven of their first 10 three-pointers to get past Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 5) afternoon at the Smith University Center.
The Patriots improved to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-9 and 1-5. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Jan. 9) as they host Clayton State University in a 5:30 p.m. PBC contest.
The Mountain Lions held a 6-5 lead after a three-pointer by
Haylie Shope at the 7:46 mark in the first quarter. Francis Marion went on a 26-8 run to end the quarter, going 13-of-19 (5-of-7 from three-point range) from the floor to take a 31-14 lead.
Kiana Adderton gave the Patriots their largest lead of the game (57-30) after a layup 3:13 into the third quarter.
Pamela Diokpara totaled 15 points for the Mountain Lions, while
Sarah Woghiren added 14 points and grabbed three rebounds and
Haylie Shope tallied 10 points and three rebounds.
Adderton recorded a double-double with 20 points for Francis Marion as she went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and grabbed 10 rebounds. Shaunice Fulmore added 18 points and six rebounds, while Abigail Bullock tallied 15 points and five assists.
