AUGUSTA, Ga. | Young Harris College fell to Augusta University 65-64 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Monday (Jan. 21) afternoon at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Jaguars improved to 3-12 overall and 2-7 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-14 and 1-10. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Jan. 26) on the road in Columbus, Georgia, as they take on Columbus State University in a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest.
The Mountain Lions held a 17-9 advantage with 2:21 left to play in the first after a three-pointer by
Rachel Dobbs. Kaela Patrick gave Augusta a 33-30 lead with 3:31 left before halftime after a three-pointer.
Haylie Shope tied the game at 35 for Young Harris after a pair of free throws with two minutes left in the second quarter.
The Jaguars took the lead for good (38-35) at the 1:31 mark in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Cameryn Wilson.
Lindsey Caudell converted a layup with 1:36 left in the fourth quarter to bring Young Harris within two (60-58).
After a pair of free throws by Augusta,
Pamela Diokpara made a layup for Young Harris with 43 seconds left to keep the score within two (62-60). The Jaguars converted three of their last four free throws to secure the victory.
Diokpara finished with 19 points and seven rebounds for the Mountain Lions, while
Sarah Reid totaled seven points and six rebounds.
Sarah Woghiren tallied seven points, three assists, and three steals.
Patrick had 17 points off the bench for Augusta, while Wilson tallied 16 points and Brianna Middleton added 12 points and nine rebounds.
