CONOVER, N.C. | Young Harris College finished in a tie for 15th place after the final round of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional Wednesday (May 9) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 20 in the latest Bushnell GCAA Coaches poll, shot 298 on the par 71, 6,940-yard layout on the Jones Course at the Rock Barn Country Club to finish the 54-hole tournament at 893 along with No. 7 Newberry College, North Greenville University and Georgia Southwestern State University.
No. 1 University of West Florida won the 20-team event at 840, three strokes better than No. 2 Florida Southern College. No. 5 Barry University finished in third place at 853, while No. 6 Lynn University came in fourth at 854. No. 18 Lincoln Memorial University finished in fifth place at 868, while Delta State University and No. 16 Saint Leo University tied for sixth place at 876. Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan earned medalist for the regional as he recorded a 203 total, three strokes clear of the next competitor.
The top seven teams at the South/Southeast Regional, along with the top two individuals not on those teams, will advance to the 20-team field at the national championship which will be played May 21-25 on the Fighting Joe Course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
David Wallin posted his third consecutive round of 74 and tied for 48th place at 222, while
Valter Andersson and
John Bolger tied for 58th place at 224. Bolger carded the low round of the day for the Mountain Lions with a 72, while Andersson tallied a 76.
Trey Pearson shot a 77 in the final round and tied for 81st place at 228, while
Anton Karlbom fired a 76 and finished in 91st at 232.
