Mountain Lions soar past Falcons 25-6 in GSC Tournament semifinals

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Anna Luckie scored four goals as top seeded Young Harris College defeated the University of Montevallo 25-6 Friday (April 27) afternoon in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Invitational Tournament at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 13-6 and they will face No. 2 seed University of Alabama in Huntsville, which defeated Lee University 21-6 in the other semifinal, in Sunday's (April 29) 1 p.m. championship match. It will be the third consecutive year the teams will meet in the tournament finals. Young Harris defeated UAH in both the 2016 and 2017 title matches. Montevallo ended its season at 8-9.

The 25 goals by the Mountain Lions set a new scoring standard, surpassing the previous high of 24 also set against the Falcons.

Luckie scored the first two goals as YHC sprinted out to a 6-0 lead after Hayley Bartlett's goal with 25:28. Montevallo and Young Harris split the next four goals before the Mountain Lions reeled off the next 10 goals as they opened up a 18-2 lead after Rachel Lepine scored with six minutes remaining in the first half. Young Harris led 20-3 at the half 

Luckie was one of 12 YHC players to find the back of the net in the win. Kendra Parenteau, Lepine, Bartlett and Erika Cross each scored three goals, while Nicole Kernohan and Katie McNutt had two goals apiece. Channing Milford, Maddie Peek, Kirsten Barth, Ansley Coles and Leigh Anne Turner found the back of the net once. Parenteau dished out a team-high four assists, while Lepine registered three. Bartlett and Cross had one assist each.

Young Harris held advantages in shots (32-14), ground balls (14-10) and draw controls (19-14). Meghan Tonnesen led the Mountain Lions with six draw controls while Barth had five. Julia Darroch corralled four ground balls, while Tonnesen had two. 

Darroch and Rachel Robb each played a half in goal for the Mountain Lions and each recorded two stops.
