Balanced attack for Mountain Lions clip Falcons 24-11

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | Thirteen players scored as Young Harris College picked up a 24-11 Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse victory over the University of Montevallo Sunday (April 22) afternoon.

The Mountain Lions wrapped up the regular season with a 12-5 ledger, including a pristine 8-0 in the Gulf South. The Mountain Lions will be the No. 1 seed at the GSC Invitational Tournament that starts Friday (April 27) at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field. The Falcons fell to 8-8 and 3-5.

Young Harris spotted Montevallo an early 3-0 lead before the Mountain Lions got strikes from Rachel Lepine, Maddie Peek and Kendra Parenteau to tie the match at 3 with 18:45 left in the first half. The Falcons scored two of the next three goals before Young Harris broke open the match with four unanswered goals - one each from Meghan Tonnesen, Lepine, Hayley Bartlett and Nicole Kernohan - to take an 8-5 lead with 4:55 to play before halftime. 

Montevallo got a goal back before Young Harris closed out the final 2:01 of the half with four goals - one each by Anna Luckie, Tonnesen, Leigh Anne Turner and Kelsey Dover - to take a 12-7 lead at the half.

The Mountain Lions opened the second half by scoring five of the first six goals to take a 17-8 lead.

Luckie led YHC with four goals, while Channing Milford had three. Lepine, Turner, Kernohan, Tonnesen, Bartlett, and Parenteau each recorded two goals, while Katie McNutt, Ansley Coles, Peek, Dover and Erika Cross had one apiece. Bartlett, Parenteau, Cross, and Colles had two assists each, while Turner, Kirsten Barth, Lepine, and Luckie had one each.

YHC outshot the Falcons 39-23 and held an advantage in ground balls 30-22. Luckie led the way with seven draw controls, while Dover collected four more. Barth and Lepine also had two draw controls each. Peek, Cross and Julia Darroch had three ground balls apiece for the Mountain Lions. 

Darroch (two) and Rachel Robb (four) combined for six saves in goal for Young Harris.
