No. 22 Young Harris finishes in third at PBC Championship

Behind four players in the top 20, the Young Harris College men's golf team finished in third place at the Peach Belt Conference Championship Sunday (April 15) afternoon.

The No. 22-ranked Mountain Lions shot their best round of the tournament - a three-under par 285 - on the par 72, 6,939-yard layout on the Slammer and Squire course at the World Golf Village. Young Harris finished the 54-hole event with a score of 882. No. 9 University of South Carolina-Aiken earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament as they won the tournament with an 850 total, 14 strokes clear of No. 10 Columbus State University.

Three of the five scores in the final round were under par. John Bolger shot a one-under par 71 and came in sixth place with a 216 score. David Wallin and Anton Karlbom each shot two-under par rounds of 70. Wallin finished in a tie for eighth at 219, while Karlbom tied for 12th place at 221. Valter Andersson shot a 74 and tied for 18th at 226, while Trey Pearson posted a 75 and tied for 29th place at 228.

Johnson Holliday from USC Aiken earned medalist honors with a three-round score of 208, three strokes ahead of Columbus State's Gideon Van Der Vyver.

The Mountain Lions, who are ranked eighth in the NCAA regional rankings, will now await word to see if they will earn one of the seven at-large berths to the NCAA Division II Tournament that will be announced April 27.
