Win streak at six as Mountain Lions defeat Walsh 13-6

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Bevan Pate and Bruce Silk scored three goals apiece as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team defeated Walsh University 13-6 Friday (March 9) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions won their sixth consecutive match as they improved to 6-3, while the Cavaliers remained winless in five tries. Young Harris returns to action with a 5 p.m. home match against Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University. Prior to the match, the Mountain Lions will recognize their six seniors.

Walsh jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Frank Savena goal at the 12:39 mark, but the Mountain Lions scored four unanswered goals - Pate, Zach Stephenson, Nolan Moon and Silk - to take a 4-1 lead with 13:27 remaining before halftime. Walsh and Young Harris each traded a pair of goals as Young Harris took a 6-3 lead at intermission.

Walsh got a goal to pull within 6-4 less than two minutes into the second half, before Young Harris scored the next six goals to give the Mountain Lions a 12-4 lead on a Jimmy Martelli strike with 9:52 remaining in the match.

Young Harris doubled the Cavaliers in shots (38-17) and ground balls (28-15). The Mountain Lions won 15 of the 22 face-offs.

Moon and Martelli each scored twice for the Mountain Lions, while Daniel Zimny, Chandler Bradley and Stephenson each found the back of the net once. Garrett Blake paced Young Harris with three assists, with Pate recording two. Jake Dunlop, Hayes Johnson and Zimny had one assist apiece.

Stephenson won 15 face-offs for the Mountain Lions and he recorded 11 ground balls. Silk also scooped up three ground balls, while Julian Infanti, Johnson, Dunlop, Alex Venturino, Bradley and  Matty Ledon had two each.

Sean Dever had four saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
