MELBOURNE, Fla. | No. 6 Florida Institute of Technology held off Young Harris College 20-15 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Wednesday (March 7) evening at Panther Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 6-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-2. Young Harris returns to action Monday (March 12) when they host Slippery Rock University in a 5 p.m. match at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Florida Tech led 8-4 at the half before the Mountain Lions scored three times - two from
Kendra Parenteau and another from
Nicole Kernohan - as they closed to within a goal at 8-7 with 28:05 remaining. The Panthers responded by scoring the next five goals to open uo a 13-7 lead five minutes later.
Florida Tech expanded its lead to as many as nine goals (18-9), but Young Harris scored six of the seven goals to close to within 19-15 with 1:52 to go.
Kelsey Dover, Kernohan and Parenteau led the YHC offensive attack with three goals apiece while
Anna Luckie had two.
Mary Deatrick,
Rachel Lepine,
Hayley Bartlett and
Erika Cross each scored once, Parenteau added three assists, while Cross added one.
Deatrick had eight draw controls for the Mountain Lions, while Lepine and
Meghan Tonnesen had four apiece.
Kirsten Barth also had three draw controls.
Rachel Robb had seven ground balls for YHC, while
Elli Flaig scoored up five more. Cross tallied four ground balls, while
Hannah Sacristan had three.
Robb had eight saves in net for the Mountain Lions, while
Julia Darroch had one.
