Mountain Lions win fifth in a row with 18-4 win over Argonauts

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College reeled off 11 unanswered goals as the Mountain Lions picked up their fifth consecutive win with an 18-4 non-conference victory over Notre Dame de Namur University Tuesday (March 6) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

Young Harris improved to 5-3, while the Argonauts fell to 1-5. Young Harris returns to action Friday (March 9) with a 4 p.m. home match against Walsh University.

Bennett Duffy scored with 8:50 remaining in the first quarter to give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead. That would be the last Argonaut goal scored for just over 30 minutes. Young Harris scored five goals in the first quarter to take a 5-1 lead before added four more in the second quarter to take a 9-1 halftime lead. The Mountain Lions scored the first two goals of the second half before NDNU got its second goal.

Chandler Bradley led the YHC scoring attack with four goals, while Bruce Silk tallied three. Jimmy Martelli, Garrett Blake, Duncan Jackson, Daniel Zimny and Nolan Moon had two goals apiece, while Harrison Wiggins added one. Hayes Johnson, Matty Ledon and Martelli each dished out two assists, while Blake, Julian Infanti, Jackson and Silk had one apiece.

YHC outshot Notre Dame 40-24 and had a 30-20 advantage in ground balls. 

Zach Stephenson led the Mountain Lions with nine face-off wins, while Parker Lamarque and Ledon each registered three. Stephenson scooped up seven ground balls for Young Harris, while Jackson Kohler had five and Jake Dunlop added four more. Kyle Beverly had three ground balls with Silk, Infanti, Alex Venturino and Lamarque corralling two apiece.

Sean Dever recorded eight saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
