Young Harris flies by Hawks 21-2 on Senior Day

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Ten different players scored a goal as Young Harris College picked up a 21-2 Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse victory over Shorter University on Senior Day Saturday (March 31) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 8-5 overall and remain in first place in the GSC with a 6-0 ledger. Shorter fell to 0-6 and 0-5. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (April 7) with an 11 a.m. match against the University of Virginia's College at Wise in Wise, Virginia.

Young Harris recognized its eight seniors - Jordan Cox, Julia Darroch, Elli Flaig, Nicole Kernohan, Rachel Lepine, Katie McNutt, Kendra Parenteau, and  Meghan Tonnesen - prior to the match.

The Mountain Lions raced out to an 8-0 lead in the game's first 13 minutes as Kernohan scored three times and Parenteau added two more scores. Young Harris took a 12-2 lead at the half and then added nine unanswered goals in the second half.

Kernohan paced Young Harris with five scores, while Lepine added three. Parenteau, Erika Cross, Kelsey Dover, Tonnesen and Anna Luckie each found the back of the net twice, while Maddie Peek, Cox and McNutt each got in the scoring column with a goal. Cross and Parenteau each led the Mountain Lions with three assists, while Dover, Kernohan and Peek each registered an assist.

Young Harris held a 33-16 margin in shots, 16-7 in draw controls and 24-18 in ground balls.

Tonnesen led the way with six ground balls and Lepine added five more, while Cross tallied four. Tonnesen scooped up four grounds balls, while Dover, and Parenteau had three each. 

Darroch recorded six saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
