AMERICUS, Ga. | Georgia Southwestern State University scored eight runs in the sixth inning en route to a 12-3 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Saturday (March 31) afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.
The Hurricanes improved to 6-24 overall and to 2-16 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions saw their season high win streak snapped at seven as they fall to 19-14 and 12-9. Young Harris will travel to Anderson, South Carolina, Monday (April 2) for a 6 p.m. contest against Anderson (S.C.) University.
Young Harris got single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead.
Corley Reynolds drove in the first run on a ground out in the second before
Jackson Jones doubled to right-center in the third.
Logan Worley drove in the final run in the fourth on a single to right field.
The Hurricanes pushed across single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-3 lead before Georgia Southwestern broke the game open in the sixth, scoring eight runs as they sent 14 batters to the plate.
Jones led the Mountain Lions with three hits, while Worley and
Skylor Murphy had two hits each.
Kyle Sparks (1-4) earned the complete-game victory for the Hurricanes as he scattered nine hits and struck out seven.
Steven Eichhorn (1-3) took the loss in relief for the Mountain Lions.
