ANDERSON, S.C. | Dillon Carpenter and Chandler Castleberry hit three home runs and drove in nine runs as Anderson (S.C.) University defeated Young Harris College 14-8 in a non-conference baseball contest Monday (April 2) evening at Memorial Stadium.
The Trojans improved to 12-21, while the Mountain Lions fell to 19-15. Young Harris remains on the road as they face Emmanuel (Ga.) College Tuesday (April 3) at 5 p.m. in Franklin Springs, Georgia.
Castleberry connected on two home runs for the Trojans, while Carpenter had one.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead in their first at-bat as they scored five times with two outs.
Tristin Smith had a two-run single to left and
Royce Woolfolk drove in another run with his double to left field. YHC also added two unearned runs on an Anderson fielding error.
The Trojans battled back by scoring three runs in the first and adding single runs in the second and third innings to tie the score at 5. Anderson added three runs in the fifth and two more an inning later to open up a 10-5 lead.
Young Harris got within two runs at 10-8 after pushing across three runs in its half of the seventh.
Cory Ewald had a sacrifice fly, while
Corley Reynolds laced a two-run single through the right side.
The Trojans thwarted a YHC rally as they added four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 14-8 lead.
Jackson Jones and
Rudy Gaona had two hits apiece for the Mountain Lions, who had eight hits as a team. Jones and Gaona recorded doubles for the Mountain Lions, while
Logan Worley had a triple.
Matthew Reitz (2-0) earned the win in relief, while Christian Carpenter recorded a save for Anderson.
Jake Lovvorn (0-2) took the loss in relief.
