AMERICUS, Ga. | Logan Worley had nine hits as Young Harris College swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader from Georgia Southwestern State University Friday (March 30) afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.
The Mountain Lions scored in every inning but one as they took game one 20-1 before Young Harris scored six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to rally to take game two 7-3.
The Mountain Lions improved to 19-13 overall and 12-8 in the Peach Belt as they won their seventh game in a row with the sweep. The Hurricanes fell to 5-24 and 1-16. The teams wrap up their three-game series Saturday (March 31) at 1 p.m.
Worley, a freshman outfielder from Griffin, Georgia, led the Mountain Lions hit parade in game one. He went 6-of-7 with a home run - a two-run shot to left field in the second - and drove in four runs while scoring six times.
Worley, who had five singles to go along with the long ball, set a new YHC record (NCAA era) with the six hits, surpassing the previous mark of five. The six hits also tied a PBC record for hits in a Peach Belt game. Worley is just the sixth player to turn that feat. He also tied a YHC mark (NCAA era) with six runs scored, tying the record set by Jack Morrow against the University of North Georgia in 2014.
For the second straight game, every Mountain Lion starter had at least one hit in the 27-hit attack.
Skylor Murphy and
Tyler Washington each collected three hits each, while
Royce Woolfolk,
Jackson Jones,
Rudy Gaona,
Cory Ewald,
Corley Reynolds and
Brett Graczyk had two hits apiece. Eight of the hits went for extra bases. In addition to Worley's home run, Jones added a two-run shot in the fourth. Murphy clubbed two doubles, while Woolfolk, Gaona, Ewald, Washington and Graczyk had one each. Jones also drove in three runs, while Woolfolk and Ewald also knocked in two each.
Michael Livingston (4-1) earned the win with seven scoreless innings of work, scattering three hits with 10 strikeouts, while walking no one.Â
Worley and Jones each had three hits to lead the Mountain Lions, who only had eight in the nightcap.
The Mountain Lions trailed 3-1 entering the eighth inning. Worley started the rally with an one-out single and Murphy followed with a walk. Both runners scored on Jones' double down the left field line to tie the score at 3.
After
McLain Harris (2-3) wiggled out of trouble in the bottom half of the inning, Young Harris completed the rally with a four-run ninth inning. The Mountain Lions loaded the bases with no one out as
Tristin Smith walked, Washington reached on an error and Reynolds was hit by a pitch. Graczyk gave YHC the lead 5-3 with a two-run single to center. Gaona added two more insurance runs with his single to left field.
Harris earned the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Starter
Dylan Gibeau got a no decision for the Mountain Lions as he gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits and eight strikeouts in seven innings.
