GREENWOOD, S.C. |
Valter Andersson and the Young Harris College men's golf team won the individual and team titles at the Bearcat Golf Classic hosted by Lander University Tuesday (March 27) afternoon.

YHC shot a program-tying best score of 279 in the final round on the par 72, 6,800-yard course at the Greenwood Country Club as the Mountain Lions, who captured the 2016 Lander event, won the team title going away over 18 other squads with a 54-hole score of 850, 17 strokes ahead of second place Lincoln Memorial University. The 850 tally tied the program's 54-hole record (NCAA era) set last season at the UNG Tri-Match, while the Mountain Lions had previously shot 279 in a row twice (2015 Peach Belt Conference Championship and 2018 Spring Kick-off Intercollegiate).

It was the fourth tournament, including all three tournaments this spring, this year the Mountain Lions have finish in first or tied for first place. YHC lost two of them in scorecard playoffs before winning the past two tournaments. It was the seventh tournament win in the program's NCAA era history, but only the third in a tournament this size. The other wins came in tournament with six or less teams.

Andersson shot a four-under par 68 in the final round to complete the 54-hole tournament with a career score of 209. It was the first career win for the sophomore from Balsta, Sweden. He is the sixth Mountain Lions in the NCAA era to win a tournament.

David Wallin and Ryan Emery tied for fifth place at 212. Wallin shot a 69 in the final round, while Emery posted a 70. John Bolger tied for 17th place at 217, while Trey Pearson tied for 22nd at 219. Both Bolger and Pearson carded even-par rounds of 72.

The Mountain Lions wrap up their regular season Tuesday (April 3) when they travel to Loudon, Tennessee, to compete in the Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate.
