YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Every Young Harris College player collected at least one hit as the Mountain Lions recorded a 13-7 non-conference baseball victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) College Tuesday (March 27) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions won their fifth game in a row as they improved to 17-13, while the Lions fell to 12-18. Young Harris travels to Americus, Georgia, for a 1 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern State University.
Emmanuel connected on three home runs in the first two innings to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. The Mountain Lions started the comeback in the bottom of the fourth when
Cory Ewald led off with a home run - his team-leading sixth of 2018 - down the right field line.
Brett Graczyk added an RBI single to left field to cut the margin in half.
After another solo homer by Emmanuel in the top of the fifth, Young Harris pulled to within a run at 6-5 with a three-run fifth.
Corley Reynolds and Graczyk drove in runs with two outs. Reynolds stroked a two-run single to left, while Graczyk added an RBI single through the left side.
The Mountain Lions reclaimed the lead at 7-5 with two more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by
Jackson Jones and Ewald. Emmanuel got a run back in the top of the seventh before the Mountain Lions broke the game open in the bottom half of the inning with six runs.
Logan Worley had a two-run single while
Rudy Gaona added a sacrifice fly to right. Ewald drove in another run with an infield single before
Tristin Smith, who was named the NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week earlier in the day, added a two-run double to left.
Blake Metivier (1-1) earned the win with five innings of relief, allowing just one on three hits. Daniel Gooden (1-1) took the loss for Emmanuel.
Ewald led the 18-hit attack for the Mountain Lions with four hits. Graczyk and Worley followed with three hits apiece, while Jones and Reynolds each collected two hits. Ewald drove in three runs, while Worley, Smith, Reynolds and Graczyk had two RBI each.
