YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Tristin Smith hit his third home run of the weekend - his fourth of the season - as Young Harris College completed the three-game sweep of No. 11 Flagler College with a 4-3 decision in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday (March 24) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 16-13 overall and 10-8 in the PBC, while the Saints fell to 23-8 and 14-4. It was the first sweep of a PBC series by the Mountain Lions since April 2014 when they took three games from Georgia Southwestern State University. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday as they host Emmanuel (Ga.) College in a 4 p.m. home contest.
Jackson Jones put the Mountain Lions on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a single ro right field that scored
Logan Worley.
Young Harris added two more in the sixth inning with a two-run homer by Smith over the left field fence.
Corley Reynolds scored the fourth run for Young Harris in the seventh inning after a throwing error.
Steven DiPuglia hit a solo home run over the left field fence for the Saints in the top of the eighth inning. Flagler added two more runs in the eighth to make it a 4-3 game.
The Saints had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the ninth. Reliever
Steven Eichhorn got Aaron Anderson to fly out to right field to end the game.
Dylan Gibeau (2-1) picked up the win for Young Harris as he allowed three runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched.
Smith went 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored. Jones had one hit and one RBI. Worley and
Rudy Gaona each had one hit and one run scored.
Tyler Washington collected two hits while
Cory Ewald and
Brett Graczyk tallied one hit each.
Lous Pugliese (2-1) earned the loss for Flagler as he allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
