FLORENCE, S.C. | Francis Marion University scored three runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to rally for a 7-6 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Sunday (March 18) afternoon at Sparrow Stadium.
The Patriots improved to 11-16 overall and to 5-10 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 12-13 and 7-8. Young Harris will travel to Cleveland, Georgia, Wednesday (March 21) for a 2 p.m. contest against Truett-McConnell University.
Francis Marion had forced extra innings when they tied the game at 4 with a run in the seventh inning.
Young Harris took a 6-4 lead lead with two runs in the top of the 10th.
Rudy Gaona led off with a homer - his  third of the season - to center field.
Corley Reynolds reached on a one-out single through the right side before
Tyler Washington reached on a walk.
Royce Woolfolk loaded the bases with a single to right-center field.
Brett Graczyk followed with a sacrifice fly ro right field that scored Reynolds.
William Robbins led off the bottom half of the inning for the Patriots with a walk off YHC reliever
Steven Eichhorn (1-2) and moved to third on a fielding error by Young Harris. on Alex Griffith's ground ball. A wild pitch allowed Griffith to move to second. FMU tied the game at 6 on Cole Hinnant's two-run single to right-center field. Patrick Jackson followed with a single to left that advanced Hinnant to second base. Hinnant then scored the winning run on Steven Cox's single to left-center field.
Hinnant (2-3) earned the win in relief as he pitched 0.2 innings.
YHC took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Gaona's sacrifice fly. After the Patriots tied the game at 1 on a run in its half of an inning, the Mountain Lions regained the lead on a
Logan Worley ground out in the fifth. FMU scored twice in the fifth before Young Harris retook a 4-3 lead on a two-run double to right-center field in the sixth inning.Â
Skylor Murphy and Reynolds lef the Mountain Lions with two hits apiece.
Jackson Jones, Washington and Graczyk each accounted for a double.
