CLEVELAND, Ga. | Jackson Jones drove in two runs as Young Harris College collected 10 hits en route of a 7-1 non-conference baseball victory over Truett-McConnell University Thursday (March 22) afternoon at the TMU Baseball Complex.
The Mountain Lions improved to 13-13, while the Bears fell to 14-10. Young Harris returns to action Friday (March 23) as they host Flagler College in a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game at Zell B. Miller Field.
Cory Ewald started the scoring for the Mountain Lions with a groundout to shortstop in the top of the first inning that scored
Skylor Murphy.
Tyler Washington hit his first home run of the season over the right field fence in the fourth inning to give Young Harris a 2-0 lead.
Brett Graczyk added the second run of the fourth inning for the Mountain Lions with a fielder's choice that scored
Tristin Smith.
Logan Worley drove in another run with a RBI double to left field that scored Graczyk.
Jones concluded the four-run fourth inning with a double to left center that scored Worley to give Young Harris a 5-0 lead.
Jones singled to left field in the sixth inning to score Worley to put the Mountain Lions up 6-0.
Rudy Gaona made it a 7-0 lead later in the inning with a single through the left side that scored Murphy.
Josh Johnston put the Bears on the board in the bottom half of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Austin Thomas.
Matt Rogers (1-0) picked up his first win of the season as he allowed three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Jones went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI while Worley collected two hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Gaona and Washington each tallied two hits and one RBI. Murphy had one hit and two runs scored while Smith had one hit and one run scored.
Cody Nix (0-2) earned the loss for Truett-McConnell as he allowed one run on two hits with two walks in three innings pitched.
