CUMMING, Ga. | Nicole Kernohan and
Rachel Lepine each scored four times, but it wasn't enough as No. 11 Rollins College held off a spirited Young Harris College team 20-14 in a women's lacrosse match Thursday (March 15) evening at North Forsyth High School.
The Tars improved to 7-2, while the Mountain Lions, who played their third nationally ranked team in the last four matches, fell to 5-4. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Saturday (March 17) when they host Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University in a 2 p.m. match.
Rollins scored nine goals out of 10 in one stretch as the Tars took a 12-4 lead on a Kallie German strike with 5:05 remaining in the first half. Rollins, which led 13-6 at the half, led by as many as eight goals (17-9) midway through the second half. Young Harris rallied by scoring five of the next six goals to pull within four at 18-14 after
Hayley Bartlett scored with 6:33 to play, but the Mountain Lions couldn't get any closer.
Erika Cross added two goals for the Mountain Lions, while
Anna Luckie,
Katie McNutt, Bartlett and
Mary Deatrick each found the back of the net once. Luckie also tallied two assists for Young Harris, which was outshot by the Tars 34-27.Â
Rollins held slim margins in ground balls (17-14) and draw controls (21-13). Lepine,
Meghan Tonnesen and Deatrick had four draw controls apiece, while
Rachel Robb led the Mountain Lions with three ground balls, while Cross had two.Â
Robb recorded nine saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
