YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Samyr Santos hit two home runs and had five RBI for Shorter University as they beat Young Harris College 10-4 n a NCAA Division II baseball game Friday (Feb. 9) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Hawks improved to 3-4 on the season, while the Mountain Lions fell to 2-4. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 13) as they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee, to take on Lee University in a 3 p.m. contest.
Santos hit a two-run home run of the game in the third inning over the fence in left center field to give Shorter a 3-0 lead. Santos sent another ball over the left field fence in the sixth inning for a three-run home run, giving the Hawks an 8-0 lead.
The Mountain Lions fought back in the bottom half of the sixth as they took advantage of four walks and a hit by pitch scoring four runs off of the Shorter pitching staff making the score 8-4.
The Hawks rounded out the scoring in the seventh inning after a triple by Angel Acosta that scored Victor Perez and a wild pitch that allowed Acosta to come across the plate, which gave them a 10-4 advantage.
Trey Urban (1-1) earned the win for Shorter as he allowed one run on one hit with six strikeouts over five innings. Victor Santana picked up his first save of the season as he allowed two hits with three strikeouts over 3.2 innings pitched. Ethan Radcliffe went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Perez and Acosta each had two hits.
McLain Harris (0-2) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions as he gave up three runs on five hits in three innings.
Jackson Jones went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Brett Graczyk had a hit and RBI in the loss.
