Young Harris holds on for 4-3 win over Flames

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | Young Harris College picked up its first-ever victory over Lee University with a 4-3 non-conference baseball win Tuesday (Feb. 13) afternoon at Olympic Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 3-4, while the Flames fell to 3-4. Young Harris returns to Zell B. Miller Field Friday (Feb. 16) as they open their Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 5 p.m. contest against Lander University.

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Brett Graczyk started the rally with one of his three hits - a single up the middle, moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt. He later scored on a Jackson Jones ground out.

The Flames tied the game at 1 in the fifth on a Brayden Ware RBI sacrifice bunt.. The Mountain Lions reclaimed the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth. Rudy Gaona started the uprising with a double to center and later scored after Tyler Washington was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. YHC took a 3-1 lead after Bailey Campbell scored on a double play.

Young Harris added an insurance run in the eighth. Washington started the inning with a single through the left side and moved to third on two wild pitches. Washington scored on Skylor Murphy's RBI single up the middle.

Lee rallied in the bottom of the ninth as they score twice with two outs on back-to-back hit batters with the bases loaded to pull within a run at 4-3. Jake Tomelevage earned his first save as he came into the game and got cleanup hitter Chase Gadau to fly out to right field to end the game on the first pitch he threw.

Hudson Graham (1-0) earned the win in relief, retiring the lone batter he saw in the fifth. Jake Lovvorn started the game for the Mountain Lions, striking our five in 4.2 innings. David Pattinson (0-1) earned the loss in relief, failing to record an out in the four batters he faced in the sixth inning.

Jones and Washington had two hits each as the Mountain Lions collected 10 as a team.
