Rollins takes series finale over Young Harris

WINTER PARK, Fla. | The middle of the Rollins College lineup drove in 13 runs and had eight hits as the Tars took a 16-4 non-conference baseball victory in seven innings Sunday (Feb. 4) afternoon at Alfond Stadium.

The Tars improved to 3-0, while the Mountain Lions remained winless in three tries. Young Harris remains on the road with a 3 p.m. game Wednesday (Feb. 7) against Anderson (S.C.) University in Anderson, South Carolina.

The Mountain Lions struck first in their initial at-bat. Zavier Lushington, who collected two hits, led off with a one-out single through the left side before Rudy Gaona blasted a two-run homer, his first of 2018.

Brian Brooker, who went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI, responded with a three-run homer of his own in the bottom half of the inning off YHC starter McLain Harris (0-1) to give Rollins a 3-2 lead.

Young Harris tied the game at 3 in the third inning as Lushington led off with single and later scored on a wild pitch. Rollins tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the inning before the Mountain LIons tied the game at 4 in the top of the fourth on a Lushington ground out that scored Corley Reynolds, who had led off with a walk.

Rollins broke the game open with five runs in the fourth and seven more in the fifth to take a 16-4 lead. Bryce Peterson, who went 3-for-5, hit a grand slam in the fourth and Grant Ashline, who went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI, added a grand slam of his own an inning later.

Garrett Leonard (1-0) picked up the win with six strikeouts in four innings.
