Bobcats defeat Mountain Lions on Senior Day

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |  Alyah McGriff scored game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds for Georgia College as they went on to defeat Young Harris College 73-45 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday (Feb. 21) evening at the YHC Basketball Arena. 

The Bobcats improved to 17-10 overall and 14-7 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 9-19 and 6-15. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Feb. 24) for the final time as they travel to Aiken, South Carolina, to take on the University of South Carolina-Aiken in a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest. 

The Mountain Lions took the lead (12-10) at the 1:01 mark in the first quarter after a layup by Ge'Naisha Robinson. Georgia College took the lead for good at 15-14 with 7:05 left on a Erin Drynan layup. The Bobcats led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter before Sara Jorgensen hit a layup with seven seconds left to go into the half down 30-22.

Eryn Cochran scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter as the Mountain Lions shot 6-of-17 from the floor for 18 points, including sinking a three-pointer from halfcourt  at the end of the third quarter to cut the Bobcat lead to 11 points (51-40).  However, Georgia College outscored Young Harris 22-5  in the final quarter.

Drynan also had a double double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Sydney Cleveland tallied eight points and 10 rebounds. 

Sarah Garner had a double double of team-high 12 points and 12 rebounds for Young Harris. Cochran finished with 10 points and four rebounds, while Jorgensen tallied eight points. 

Young Harris recognized its six seniors - Garner, Jada Williams, Jorgensen, Briana Bell, Meghan McQuade, and Cochran.- who played in their final home game of their careers after the game,
