GREENWOOD, S.C. | Breshay Johnson and Jessica Harris combined for 42 points as Lander University defeated Young Harris College 80-58 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Thursday (Feb. 15) evening at the Finis Horne Arena.
The makeup game was originally scheduled to be played on Jan. 17, but was rescheduled due to snow.
The Bearcats improved to 20-5 overall and to 15-4 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions, who were playing in their third consecutive road game, fell to 9-17 and 6-13. YHC closes out its road trip Saturday (Feb. 17) with a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest against Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia.
Young Harris jumped out to an early 12-7 lead after a
Ge'Naisha Robinson layup with 3:34 remaining in the first quarter. Robinson scored a career-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed seven rebounds.
Lander then reeled off 10 unanswered points to open up a 17-12 lead after a Harris three-pointer with 86 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Bearcats expanded their lead to nine points (35-26) at the intermission. Lander, which scored 34 points off YHC's 21 turnovers, extended its lead to 15 points in third quarter before taking its largest lead (80-56) in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.
Johnson finished with a double double with 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while Harris tallied 20 points and seven rebounds. Chelsea Mitchell added 14 points and Ariana Sanders tallied 11 more.
Ashlyn Ellison added 10 points for the Mountain Lions, while
Sarah Garner grabbed 14 rebounds and added nine points.Â
