No. 17 Lindenwood takes 17-11 win over Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Leonard Jones and Colin Domek scored four goals apiece as No. 17 Lindenwood University held off Young Harris College 17-11 in a non-conference men's lacrosse match on a rainy Saturday (Feb. 10) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions dropped their second consecutive match to a ranked opponent, while the Lions improved to 1-0. Young Harris will hit the road for a 7 p.m. meeting against No. 19 Saint Leo University Friday (Feb. 15) in Saint Leo, Florida.

Young Harris jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Jimmy Martelli and Billy Magill in the first four minutes. Lindenwood reeled off four consecutive goals, before Bruce Silk found the back of the net with 39 seconds left as the Mountain Lions trailed 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Martelli, Bevan Pate and Jake Dunlop scored in the second quarter for the Mountain Lions as Lindenwood took a 9-6 halftime lead. The teams traded goals in the third quarter as the Lions lead 10-7 after 45 minutes.

Bruce Silk's goal at the 12:31 mark of the fourth quarter got the Mountain Lions within two at 10-8, but Lindenwood scored five of the next six goals to take a 15-9 lead with 6:01 to go. Silk and Dunlop scored back-to-back goals in 39 second span to trim the deficit to 15-11, but Domek and Jones each scored  a goal in the final three minutes to hold the Mountain Lions at bay.

Lindenwood outshot Young Harris 40-26, while the Mountain Lions held a 23-21 edge in ground balls. Young Harris won 21 of the 32 face-offs, while Lindenwood forced 22 YHC turnovers.

Silk led the way for Young Harris with three goals, while Dunlop and Martelli had two each. Magill, Pate, Matty Ledon and Zach Stephenson each scored one for the Mountain Lions. Daniel Zimny had two assists, while Chandler Bradley and Silk had one each. Stephenson, who won 21 face-offs, led the Mountain Lions with 12 ground balls. Tyler Oglesby scooped up three ground balls, while Ledon had two.

Sean Dever recorded 11 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Ben Besancenez tallied seven for the Lions.
