Saints claw past Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |  Tabitha Odabe recorded a triple-double as Flagler College defeated Young Harris College 71-49 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon at the YHC Basketball Arena. 

The Saints improved to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-11 and 2-7. Young Harris returns to action Monday (Jan. 15) as they host Augusta University in a 1:30 p.m. Peach Belt contest. 

Eryn Cochran scored the eight of the first 10 points for the Mountain Lions with a pair of three pointers and a layup at the 5:34 mark in the first quarter as Young Harris opened up a 10-5 lead.

Flagler took a 29-26 halftime lead as the Saints ended the second quarter with an 11-3 run. Odabe, who finished with 20 points, 21 rebounds and a PBC record tying 12 blocked shots, had five points during the rally.

Young Harris got back-to-back-to back three-pointers from Briana Bell, Sara Jorgensen, and Sarah Garner to start the second half as the Mountain Lions opened up a 35-31 lead with 7:55 to go. The Saints broke the game open as they ended the third quarter on a 16-2 run - including 10 in a row - as Flagler took a 51-39 lead. 

The closest Young Harris would get the rest of the way was eight points (51-43) after Bell connected on a three-pointer with 8:27 remaining in the game,

Tiffany Hodge added 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Saint, while Bri Roberts finished with 10 points and four rebounds.

Cochran had 11 points for the Mountain Lions, while Garner tallied 13 rebounds and five points. Jorgensen finished with eight points and six rebounds, while Ashlyn Ellison and Bell finished with seven points each.
