ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | In a battle of nationally ranked women's tennis teams, No. 8 Flagler College held off No. 38 Young Harris College 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference match Sunday (April 9) morning at the Flagler Tennis Center.
The Saints improved to 16-3 overall and to 9-2 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 14-7 overall and wrapped up conference action at 7-5. Young Harris is currently in seventh place in the league and has qualified for the PBC Championship in two weeks in Florence, South Carolina. The Mountain Lions will wrap up their regular season April 19 when they host Emmanuel (Ga.) College in a 2 p.m. match at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
Flagler took a 2-1 lead after doubles before the Mountain Lions tied the match at 2 after
Elin Rundcrantz picked up a point with a straight set victory at No. 2 singles. However, the Saints won the next three matches that were decided to take a 5-2 lead.
Carol Quevedo picked up a three-set win  at No. 5 singles and
Maria Puerta registered a straight set win at No. 6 for the Mountain Lions to close out the match.
