Mountain Lions clinch GSC Invitational berth with 20-9 win over Falcons

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | Kendra Parenteau scored eight times as the Young Harris College women's lacrosse team used a strong first half to defeat the University of Montevallo 20-9 in a Gulf South Conference match Saturday (April 8) afternoon at the Lacrosse Stadium.

The Mountain Lions improved to 7-7 overall and to 4-1 in the GSC. With the win, YHC maintains second place in the league and clinches one of the four spots in the Gulf South Conference Invitational Tournament that will be held April 21 and 23 at the top seed. Young Harris, the defending GSC regular season and tournament champions, return to action Sunday (April 9)  with a 1 p.m. Central time road match against the University of Alabama in Huntsville. UAH is currently in first place with a 5-0 ledger and can clinch the top seed in the tournament, while a YHC win would keep the chances alive for getting the top seed for the Mountain Lions. Montevallo fell to 8-7 and 2-4.

Young Harris, which led 12-3 at the half, jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Rachel Lepine, Parenteau, Erika Cross, Sarah Bialecki, Mary Deatrick and Kelsey Dover each found the back of the net.

Parenteau led the Mountain Lions with eight goals, while Nicole Kernohan and Bialecki added three goals apiece. Cross and Lepine tossed in two goals each, while Dover and Deatrick each found the back of the net once.Bialecki and Kernohan had two assists each, while Cross, Dover, Lepine, Parenteau and Maddie Peek had one apiece.

Cross and Peek led the Mountain Lions with three draw controls apiece, while Parenteau and Deatrick had two each. Lepine scooped up five ground balls, while Julia Darroch had four and Jordan Cox and Cross had three each. Darroch registered nine saves in goal for Young Harris.
