YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The University of North Georgia baseball team defeated Young Harris College in the middle game of the Battle of Blood Mountain weekend series 13-2 Saturday (April 8) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The fifth-ranked Nighthawks improved to 28-7 overall and 13-4 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Mountain Lions fell to 12-22 and 5-12. The two teams wrap up the series Sunday (April 9) afternoon at 1 p.m.
Young Harris struck first in the first inning after
Zach Odom hit a leadoff triple and was scored on a
Nick Sexton sacrifice fly. North Georgia tied the game in the second on the first of two home runs by Trevor Sams and scored three in the third to take the lead at 4-1.
Cory Ewald hit a solo homer over the left field fence - his third of the season, in the bottom half of the inning to get the Mountain Lions within two runs at 4-2.
North Georgia broke the game open late as the Nighthawks scored three times in the seventh added five more in the ninth.
Odom, Sexton,
Zach Beggs, Ewald, and
Tyler Washington each picked up a hit in the loss for Young Harris.
Hudson Graham (1-4) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions, allowing five runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings. Daniel McCrary (6-1) picked up the win for North Georgia, pitching a complete game allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
