Top seed Young Harris flies by Falcons 20-7 in GSC semifinals

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Nine different Young Harris College players found the back of the net as the No. 1 seeded Mountain Lions defeated the University of Montevallo 20-7 in the semifinals of the 2017 Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Invitational Tournament Friday (April 21) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 11-7 and will now face No. 2 seed University of Alabama in Huntsville in Sunday's (April 23) 1 p.m. championship match. UAH defeated No. 3 seed Shorter University 20-14 in the other semifinal. YHC and UAH split their two regular-season meetings, each winning on each other's field. No. 4 seed Montevallo ended its campaign at 8-10.

Kendra Parenteau scored four of the first five goals by the Mountain Lions as YHC opened up a 5-1 lead with 16:34 remaining. The Mountain Lions ended the first half by scoring the final seven goals as YHC took a 14-3 lead at the break.

Parenteau led the Mountain Lions with seven goals, while Nicole Kernohan added four more. Sarah Bialecki and Mary Deatrick tallied two goals apiece, while Erika Cross, Maddie Peek, Kaylynn Roach, Rachel Lepine and Katie McNutt each found the back of the next once. Bialecki and Cross each posted three assists, while Leigh Anne Turner had two. Kernohan and Peek each added an assist. 

Meghan Tonnesen led the Mountain Lions with six draw controls, while Cross notched four more. Rachel Lepine scooped up three ground balls, while Cross had two. Julia Darroch stopped nine shots in the Young Harris goal.
