GREENEVILLE, Tenn. | Tusculum College used a big inning in both games to sweep a non-conference baseball doubleheader from Young Harris College Wednesday (April 19) afternoon at Pioneer Park.
Tusculum used a 14-run first inning in the opener to take a 17-4 decision, before scoring eight runs in the second inning of the nightcap to register an 11-4 victory,
The Pioneers improved to 26-15 overall, while the Mountain Lions fell to 14-28. Young Harris wraps up its regular season with a Peach Belt Conference weekend series in Savannah, Georgia, against Armstrong State University. The Mountain Lions and Pirates open the series with a noon doubleheader Saturday (April 22).
Young Harris had taken a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one on
Zach Wall's three-run homer  - to left field. The Mountain Lions added their final run in the sixth on a RBI single to center field from
Rudy Gaona.
Zach Slagle (5-1) earned the win for the Pioneers, while
Daniel McKee (0-2) took the loss. Wall and
Jackson Jones led the way offensively for the Mountain Lions with two hits apiece. Jones and Wall each posted a double in the contest.
The Mountain Lions again took the early lead in game two as Gaona doubled in a run in the first inning. Wall connected on a two-run homer to left-center field - his sixth of 2017 - in the sixth before
Nick Sexton added an RBI single an inning later.
Chase McAllister (2-1) picked up the win, while
Brian Syphoe (0-2) took the loss.
