YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Dani Bursinger, Meghan O'Brien, and Kendall Kerge each scored three goals to lead No. 5 Florida Southern College past Young Harris College 21-8 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Thursday (March 9) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mocs, who are the reigning NCAA Division II champions, improved to 7-2, while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-4. Young Harris returns to action Monday (March 13) at 4 p.m. when they host No. 6 West Chester University.
After Florida Southern scored the first two goals of the match, the Mountain Lions got scores from
Katie McNutt,
Kaylynn Roach and
Kendra Parenteau to take a 3-2 lead with 16:41 remaining in the first half. The Mocs responded by scoring the next six goals to open up an 8-3 lead with 7:57 to go. Florida Southern, which led 10-6 at the half, scored nine of the first 10 goals in the second half.
Parenteau led Young Harris with three goals, while McNutt added two more. Roach,
Sarah Bialecki and
Maddie Peek each scored once.
Kirsten Barth,
Erika Cross and Parenteau each registered an assist.
Meghan Tonnesen led the Mountain Lions with three draw controls while Parenteau, Cross and Barth had two apiece.
Anna Lummus grabbed four ground balls for YHC, while
Rachel Lepine tallied three.
Julia Darroch recorded eight saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
