ROSWELL, Ga. | Lynn University used a strong third quarter and then had to hold off Young Harris College 12-8 in a non-conference men's lacrosse match Saturday (March 4) afternoon at Titans Field, on the campus of Blessed Trinity Catholic High School.
Lynn, which outscored YHC 6-0 in the third quarter to open up a 10-3 lead, improved to 3-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-4. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (March 7) Â in a 1 p.m. match against Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia.
Young Harris scored five of the first six goals of the fourth quarter to pull within 11-8 after
Bruce Silk scored with 4:08 to go off a
Colin Fitzpatrick assist; however, it was a close as they would get as the Knights added an insurance goal with 24.2 seconds left.
Silk led the Mountain Lions with three goals, while
Bevan Pate,
Sam Gasta,
Zach Stephenson,
Chandler Bradley and
Daniel Zimny each found the back of the net. Pate and Silk had two assists each , while Fitzpatrick and
Duncan Jackson contributed one apiece.
Young Harris held a 45-42 advantage on shots and a 26-22 lead on ground balls. Lynn held a 15-9 lead in face-off wins. The Knights were successful four times on 12 extra-man opportunities, while the Mountain Lions went 1-of-8. There were 20 penalties called between the two teams.
Stephenson had seven face-off victories while
Zac Barrett had two.
Mason King and
Zach Hemans each collected five ground balls, while
Jake Dunlop and Gasta scooping up three apiece. Â King tallied 15 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
