GREENWOOD, S.C. | Young Harris College held off Lander University 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference women's tennis match Saturday (March 25) afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
The Mountain Lions, who are ranked 38th in the latest ITA Division II rankings, improved to 11-4 overall and to 5-3, while the Bearcats fell to 7-4 and 3-3. Young Harris will entertain No. 1-ranked Brigham Young University-Hawaii Tuesday (March 28) at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
Young Harris took a 2-1 lead after doubles and increased the margin to 4-1 after
Maria Puerta and
Oriana Labaqui earned straight-set victories at No. 6 and No. 3 singles, respectively. After Lander picked up wins in the next two matches,
Laura Sanchez sealed the win at No. 4 as she picked up a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over her opponent.
